I accept a limited number of sessions each year so I can provide a highly personalized experience from inquiry to gallery delivery. Clients receive planning guidance, styling assistance, proof gallery image selection, and access to thoughtfully curated wardrobe options depending on their session type. My goal is not simply to take photographs, but to preserve meaningful moments and create timeless artwork that reflects your family's unique story.

Why do you provide proof galleries instead of selecting images for your clients?

Every family sees their story differently. The image that brings tears to one parent's eyes may be different from the one another treasures most. Some clients are drawn to timeless portraits, while others fall in love with the quiet, in-between moments, a tiny hand reaching for yours, a burst of laughter, a fleeting glance.
Rather than deciding which memories matter most, I believe that choice belongs to you. Your proof gallery allows you to revisit your session and select the moments that speak to your heart. This ensures your final gallery is not a surprise, but a collection of memories chosen by you and thoughtfully hand edited in the Rye & Meadow style.

Question 3

How do I officially reserve my session date?

Under this Linktree, visit the Book a Session section and select the session type you are interested in. Each session type has its own booking page where you can view availability, dates, times, location details, and session information specific to that session.
After submitting the intake form for your desired date, I will be notified and will contact you within 24 hours with next steps. Session inquiries and emailed agreements are valid for 24 hours. Your session is officially reserved only after I receive both your fully signed session agreement and paid session retainer. Dates are not held without both requirements. If the agreement is not completed within 24 hours, the requested date is automatically released and becomes available for other clients to book.

What can I expect from the Rye & Meadow experience?

From the moment you inquire, my goal is to make the experience feel effortless and personal. After booking, you'll complete your agreement, questionnaire, and retainer online. Together, we'll plan the details of your session, including styling, wardrobe guidance, and location selection.
On session day, I focus on creating a relaxed experience where genuine connection can unfold naturally. Rather than stiff poses, I capture the laughter, quiet moments, and meaningful details that tell your story. Within 48–72 hours, you'll receive a proof gallery. After selections and final editing, your images will be delivered through a private online gallery, ready to download, share, print, and cherish for years to come.

Where are the sessions held?

Session locations vary by session type. When you click on a session from my booking link, you'll be taken to that session's dedicated booking page with current availability, location details, session duration, booking instructions, and other important information. Complete package details are also available on my website.
Studio sessions are held in my home studio in Mooresville. Gather Short Lifestyle Sessions are held exclusively in Mooresville. Rooted Signature Sessions may take place throughout the Lake Norman area or at a location of your choice within 15 miles of Mooresville at no additional travel fee. Lakeside locations are available for an additional fee. Outdoor locations are finalized after your signed agreement and paid retainer are received.

What should I know about your studio space?

My studio is a private, in-home natural light studio in Mooresville, NC, designed with an organic, timeless aesthetic that complements the Rye & Meadow style. It is ideal for newborn, maternity, milestone, and petite family sessions. The studio includes select Client Closet pieces, a signature newborn closet, and carefully curated props and textiles. The space is shoe-free, pet-friendly, and offers restroom access, a guest lounge, water, and organic kid-friendly snacks. As a mother of two young boys, I also keep toys available for little ones. My German Shepherd lives on the property but remains out of sight during sessions. If you have pet allergies, my studio may not be a suitable environment for you. Exact location details are provided after booking.

Question 7

If my session does not include Client Closet access, will I still receive styling guidance?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Regardless of whether your session includes Client Closet access, I provide styling guidance to all clients. Once your session is fully booked, you will receive a detailed preparation guide tailored to your specific session type. These guides include recommendations on colors, textures, outfit coordination, and other helpful tips to ensure your family photographs beautifully while staying true to your personal style. The guidance is designed to help your own wardrobe choices complement my earthy and artistic photography style. However, styling recommendations are never required, and you are always welcome to dress in a way that feels most authentic and comfortable for you and your family.

Question 8

I would like to propose to my girlfriend. Which package should I book?

Accepted Answer

Proposal sessions are booked exclusively as a Rooted Signature Session. Due to the planning and flexibility required, shorter session options are not available for surprise proposals.
These sessions are designed to begin as a relaxed couples session, allowing your partner to enjoy the experience naturally without suspecting what is to come. At the planned moment, the session transitions into your proposal, capturing authentic emotions, reactions, and the beginning of your engagement story. Following the proposal, we continue with engagement portraits to celebrate this exciting milestone.
Prior to your session, we will coordinate all details to ensure a seamless and memorable experience.

Question 9

How does image selection work, and can I purchase additional images?

Accepted Answer

Within 24–48 hours of your session, you will receive a copyright-protected raw gallery for view only link via email, containing all images from your session displayed exactly as they came out of camera and numbered for easy selection along with further instructions for your image selection process. These images are unedited and may not be downloaded, shared, copied, or used in any form. You will submit your image selections list via email by the deadline provided with your gallery. Additional images may be purchased individually or in discounted image bundles before final editing begins. Once your selections are received, each chosen image will be hand edited and delivered through your private online gallery.

Question 10

What happens if we need to reschedule due to emergency, non-emergency or sickness?

Accepted Answer

If your session falls during September, October, November, or December, a $50 rescheduling fee applies to any client-requested date change, regardless of the reason, including illness, scheduling conflicts, emergencies, or other personal circumstances. These months represent my busiest season, and reserved dates are extremely limited.
Weather-related rescheduling is always complimentary and will be determined at my discretion based on conditions that may impact the safety, quality, or overall success of your session.
For sessions outside of September–December, one complimentary reschedule is permitted. Any additional reschedules will incur a $50 rescheduling fee.

Question 11

Can I request or purchase the entire Raw Gallery?

Accepted Answer

No. Raw files and unedited images are not available for purchase or delivery. The proof gallery is provided solely for image selection and represents an unfinished stage of the creative process. All proof gallery images, raw files, and unedited photographs remain copyright protected and may not be downloaded, shared, copied, screenshot, altered, or used in any form. Additional images and image bundles may be purchased from your proof gallery, and all selected images are individually hand edited before final delivery.

Question 12

Do you use Photoshop?

Accepted Answer

Yes, when appropriate. Every selected image receives careful hand editing to create the final Rye & Meadow look. This may include adjustments to color, exposure, contrast, and minor distractions. Any Photoshop work performed is at the sole discretion of the photographer and is not offered based on individual editing requests. My editing style is natural and timeless, and extensive body reshaping, face swaps, or heavy retouching are not part of my standard workflow.

Question 13

When will I receive my final gallery?

Raw Gallery for View Only links are emailed within 24-48 hours of your session. Once your image selections are submitted with a list via email, final editing begins. Amber and Gather final galleries are delivered within 1-2 weeks, Eden final galleries are delivered within 2-4 weeks, while Earthside and Rooted final galleries may take 4–6 weeks, upon the date of receiving your selected images list via email from you. Estimated delivery timelines can always be found in your session agreement.

Question 14

Do you share images on social media?

Accepted Answer

Only with your permission. During booking, you will be asked whether you consent to image sharing. Your preference is respected and documented in your session agreement.

What should we wear to our session?

Accepted Answer

I recommend warm neutrals and earthy tones that complement the Rye & Meadow aesthetic. After our session is fully booked with a signed session agreement and paid session retainer, styling guidance document is provided for every session. Rooted Signature and Earthside sessions' clients also receive Client Closet access.

I'm camera shy and awkward in front of the camera. Is that a problem?

Not at all.
In fact, most of the families you see throughout my portfolio have told me the exact same thing before their session.
You do not need to know how to pose, where to place your hands, or how to create the perfect moment. My sessions are intentionally relaxed and guided every step of the way.
The photographs you are drawn to are rarely created because someone felt completely comfortable in front of a camera. They are created through connection, movement, laughter, and the beautiful moments that happen in between.
Your only job is to show up exactly as you are and love on the people who matter most. I will take care of the rest.
Years from now, your children will not remember whether you felt awkward. They will simply see how deeply they were loved.

Can I bring my pet to the session?

In many cases, yes.
Pets are often an important part of the family, and I am happy to include them in select outdoor family and maternity sessions. If you would like your pet included, please let me know before booking so we can ensure your chosen location is suitable and make any necessary arrangements.
Pets are not permitted in my home studio. While my studio is pet-friendly, I have a German Shepherd on site, and I am unable to accommodate client pets within the studio environment.
If your pet will be joining your outdoor session, I recommend bringing water, treats, waste bags, and, if possible, a friend or family member who can assist with pet care when they are not actively being photographed.

Can grandparents or extended family join my session?

Grandparents and extended family members are welcome to participate in Rooted Signature and Earthside Full Newborn Sessions.
Due to the shorter nature and intended flow of Amber Seasonal Petite Sessions, Gather Lifestyle Sessions, and Eden Lifestyle Newborn Sessions, extended family participation is not available for those session types.
If you are hoping to include multiple generations in your photographs, I recommend booking a Rooted Signature or Earthside Full Newborn Session to ensure we have adequate time to thoughtfully document those relationships while maintaining the relaxed and connection-focused Rye & Meadow experience.

What if my children don't cooperate during the session?

Children are not expected to perform, smile on command, or sit perfectly still. My sessions are designed to be relaxed and child-led, allowing little personalities to shine through naturally. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen during the in-between moments, snuggles, giggles, curiosity, and genuine connection. I have two little boys of my own and understand that children often need breaks, snacks, movement, and patience.

When should I book my maternity session?

Maternity sessions are best photographed between 28 and 35 weeks, when your baby bump is beautifully visible while still allowing you to move comfortably throughout your session.
Because my availability is limited, I highly recommend reaching out as soon as you know you would like to work with me. While every photographer's calendar is different, I generally suggest contacting your photographer no later than your 20-week anatomy scan if you know you want maternity photos. Waiting longer can significantly limit available dates and may result in missing the opportunity to book with your dream photographer.

What is the difference between a Gather short maternity session and a Rooted Signature maternity session?

Gather Lifestyle is perfect for families, couples, and maternity clients who prefer a simpler experience. For maternity sessions, the focus is on your family and the anticipation of welcoming your baby. I capture a few solo images of the expecting mother and a few with her partner, but the session is not centered on extensive maternity posing.
Rooted Signature offers more variety and a stronger focus on maternity portraits. It also includes access to my client wardrobe, maternity styling guidance, and maternity props. I intentionally guide solo maternity portraits to create the poetic, earthy, soulfull atmosphere that defines my work, making Rooted the best choice for a more complete maternity experience.

Question 25

Do you offer a maternity and newborn bundle?

Yes. The Heirloom Collection combines a full maternity session and a full newborn session at a discounted rate compared to booking both separately. It is designed for families wishing to document both milestones while enjoying collection savings.

What happens if I book the Heirloom Collection and later decide not to complete one of the sessions?

f either the maternity or newborn portion of the collection is canceled, the completed session converts into a future Rooted Signature Family Session to be held within 6 months. The payment structure remains unchanged.

Do I have to show my baby bump?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. Your comfort always comes first. While some clients love fitted gowns or styles that highlight their bump, others prefer flowing dresses, layers, or outfits that provide more coverage. My goal is to create images that feel authentic to you and reflect your personal style.
My work is very earthy, soulful, connection-focused, and rooted in storytelling. Because of that, I personally love incorporating the baby bump as a beautiful symbol of creation, motherhood, and our connection to nature. However, this is never a requirement. During the planning process, I will help guide wardrobe selections that align with your comfort level while still beautifully documenting this season of your life.

What happens if my baby is born much earlier than expected and I miss the maternity session window?

While uncommon, babies sometimes decide to arrive before their planned maternity session. If that happens, your session retainer is not lost. You may apply it toward a Rooted Signature family, or milestone session instead. Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journeys can be unpredictable, and I always do my best to work with families when unexpected circumstances arise. My goal is to ensure your investment can still be used to document this special season, even if it looks a little different than originally planned.

What if I don't feel beautiful or confident during pregnancy?

Many of the mothers you see throughout my portfolio felt exactly the same way before their session. Pregnancy changes every woman differently, and it is completely normal to feel uncertain in a body that is growing, changing, and carrying so much.
My goal is not to photograph perfection. It is to preserve a fleeting season that deserves to be remembered. Through thoughtful styling, flattering wardrobe selections, gentle guidance, and natural posing, I will help you feel comfortable throughout the experience.

Can I have open bump photos without showing my undergarments?

Sometimes, but not always.
Open bump photographs often require strategic positioning of clothing and, depending on the outfit, portions of undergarments may naturally become visible. While my focus is never on the undergarments themselves, completely concealing them is not always possible while still creating natural and flattering images.
If open bump portraits are important to you but you have concerns about undergarment visibility, I encourage you to discuss this with me before your session. Together, we can explore outfit options and determine a level of coverage that feels comfortable for you while still achieving the look you envision.

Can I mix Client Closet pieces with my own wardrobe?

Absolutely.
Many clients choose a combination of Client Closet pieces and their own clothing. In fact, it is quite common for mothers to select one outfit from my Client Closet and one from their personal wardrobe to create variety within their gallery.
Whether you choose to wear one of my gowns, your own dress, or a combination of both, I am happy to provide styling guidance to help ensure everything coordinates beautifully and complements the warm, earthy Rye & Meadow aesthetic.
The goal is never for you to fit into my wardrobe, it is to create a gallery that feels authentic to you while remaining cohesive, timeless, and true to your family's story.

Do I have to use Client Closet pieces for myself or my children?

Not at all.
Client Closet access is simply an option available to help simplify the styling process. You are welcome to use as many or as few pieces from the collection as you would like, including none at all.
Some families choose to style everyone from their own wardrobe, while others prefer to incorporate one or two Client Closet pieces alongside their personal clothing. There is no right or wrong approach.
Whether you choose pieces from my collection, your own wardrobe, or a combination of both, I am happy to provide styling guidance to help create a cohesive gallery that complements the warm, earthy Rye & Meadow aesthetic while remaining true to your family's personal style.

What days of the week do you photograph maternity sessions, and what time are they held?

My current availability for Rooted Signature Maternity Sessions can always be viewed through my Rooted booking link, where you will find available dates, session details, and booking information.
Most maternity sessions are photographed outdoors in nature around Mooresville and are scheduled during golden hour, when the light is soft, warm, and most complementary to the Rye & Meadow style.
If you are considering a lakeside maternity or family session, please contact me before booking. Lake locations can become very crowded depending on the season, day, and time, and in some cases we may need to schedule your session earlier than golden hour to create the experience and imagery you are hoping for.

Question 36

I would like a Gather Maternity Session and an Earthside Full Newborn Session. Can I bundle them together?

Accepted Answer

No. The only maternity and newborn bundle offered by Rye & Meadow is the Heirloom Collection, which combines a full Rooted Signature Maternity Session and a full Earthside Full Newborn Session at a discounted rate.
All other session combinations, including Gather Maternity Sessions paired with Earthside Full Newborn Sessions, must be booked separately and are not eligible for bundle pricing or discounts. Clients are always welcome to book multiple session types, but each session will be purchased at its regular package rate.

Question 37

Do you edit stretch marks?

Accepted Answer

My editing style is generally natural and minimal. Unless specifically requested, I typically leave stretch marks, scars, birthmarks, freckles, moles, and other permanent features largely untouched as they are part of your story and this season of life.
If you would prefer stretch marks to be softened or removed, I am happy to discuss that with you. However, all Photoshop work and retouching remain entirely at the discretion of the photographer based on my artistic style, professional judgment, and available editing tools. Specific edits may be considered but cannot be guaranteed.

Why should I book a newborn session?

The newborn stage is one of the shortest seasons of parenthood.

A newborn session is not simply about photographing your baby. It is about preserving the beginning of a story. The love, wonder, and connection that fill your home during those first days and weeks together.
One day, your child will look back at these photographs and see where their story began. They will see how small they once were, how deeply they were loved, and the family that was waiting so patiently to meet them.
These moments pass quickly. The photographs help you hold onto them a little longer.

Earthside Sessions include access to my signature newborn closet featuring heirloom-quality hand-knit alpaca wool and cotton pieces, while Eden Lifestyle Sessions include one heirloom outfit selection for your baby.
Most uniquely, you select the images that matter most to you from your proof gallery before editing begins, ensuring your final gallery reflects the moments your family truly treasures.

When should I book my newborn session?

Accepted Answer

I recommend reserving your newborn session during your second trimester or early third trimester to ensure availability. Newborn sessions are booked based on your estimated due date rather than your baby's actual birth date.
I offer two newborn session types:
Earthside Full Newborn Session — A fully styled and posed newborn experience, ideally photographed within the first 5–21 days after birth.
Eden Lifestyle Newborn Session — A relaxed, family-focused session that can be scheduled anytime within your baby's first 3 months.
Once your baby arrives, you shall notify me within 72 hours so we can finalize your session date.

What is the difference between an Earthside full newborn session and an Eden lifestyle newborn session?

Accepted Answer

Earthside full newborn session is a fully styled newborn experience focused on posed newborn portraits, family images, and micro baby details. Sessions last approximately 2–3 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and baby-led posing. This session includes access to my newborn wardrobe, wraps, props, heirloom pieces, and client closet options for mothers and children up to size 5T.
Eden lifestyle newborn session is a relaxed, family-centered experience lasting approximately 1 hour. Baby remains in the arms of parents/siblings throughout the session, and no solo posed newborn setups are included. One heirloom knit outfit is available for baby if desired, while the rest of the family wears their own clothing. Eden sessions may be scheduled anytime within baby's first 3 months.

What days of the week do you photograph newborn sessions?

Accepted Answer

Earthside full newborn sessions are photographed on Saturday afternoons and, when needed, select Sunday afternoons. I do not offer weekday newborn session availability. Eden lifestyle  newborn sessions are also scheduled on weekends and may take place anytime within your baby's first three months. You can view my current quarterly availability by visiting the Book a Session section of my website and selecting your desired session type. Because due dates, deliveries, NICU stays, postpartum recoveries, and newborn needs can be unpredictable, clients acknowledge and accept that Earthside Sessions may occasionally take place beyond the ideal 21-day newborn window depending on baby arrivals and available weekend session dates.

How should we prepare siblings for the newborn session?

Accepted Answer

The best preparation is often no preparation at all. Young children are not expected to perform, smile on command, or sit perfectly still.
I encourage parents to arrive with realistic expectations, plenty of patience, and a few favorite snacks, drinks, toys, or comfort items. Some of the most meaningful sibling photographs happen when children are simply allowed to interact naturally with their new baby brother or sister.
My goal is to create a relaxed environment where connection comes first and perfection is never expected.

What can I expect during my newborn session?

Every newborn session is baby-led, but the experience differs slightly between Earthside and Eden.
Earthside Sessions allow plenty of time for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and cuddles as needed. I typically begin with solo newborn portraits, followed by parent, sibling, and family images.
If possible, I recommend having siblings arrive later with a trusted family member or friend, as they may otherwise spend 1–1.5 hours waiting before being photographed.
Due to the shorter nature of Eden Lifestyle Sessions, there is less flexibility for extended settling and feeding breaks. Eden is designed as a relaxed lifestyle experience focused on family connection and natural interactions.

Question 45

What newborn package should I book?

Accepted Answer

The best package depends on the type of experience you are looking for.
Earthside Full Newborn Sessions are designed with maximum flexibility in mind. Time is built in for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, outfit changes, and settling baby as needed. If your baby needs extra cuddles or a longer feeding break, there is room for that within the session.
Eden Lifestyle Sessions are a shorter, one-hour experience focused on natural family connection and storytelling. While baby's needs always come first, the session length remains the same. Because of the limited timeframe, Eden does not offer the same flexibility for extended feeding or settling breaks that Earthside provides.
If flexibility is important to you, Earthside is likely the better fit.

Question 46

Can I nurse or feed my baby in your studio?

Absolutely.
My studio is a private, relaxed, and family-friendly space where you are welcome to nurse, bottle feed, pump, soothe, and care for your baby as needed throughout your session. There is no expectation to rush feedings or feel uncomfortable while meeting your baby's needs.
For Earthside Sessions especially, feeding breaks are a normal part of the experience and time is intentionally built into the session to accommodate them. My goal is for you to feel comfortable, supported, and at ease during your time in the studio.

What should I bring to my newborn session?

Accepted Answer

Very little. One of the benefits of a studio newborn session is that most of the planning has already been done for you.
For Earthside Sessions, I provide access to my newborn closet, wraps, bonnets, headbands, blankets, and heirloom-quality newborn pieces. Eden Lifestyle Sessions include one heirloom outfit selection for your baby from the same collection.
I recommend bringing extra diapers, wipes, bottles if bottle feeding, a pacifier if your baby uses one, and any sentimental items you would like incorporated into your images. For siblings, a few quiet toys, books, snacks, or comfort items can also be helpful.
Most importantly, bring your baby and simply settle into the experience. The rest will unfold naturally.

What should parents and siblings wear to the newborn session?

Accepted Answer

I recommend soft, neutral, and earthy tones that complement the Rye & Meadow style. Creams, beiges, taupes, olives, soft browns, and warm neutrals photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your family's connection rather than the clothing itself. Avoid bright colors, logos, graphics, and busy patterns whenever possible. Earthside clients receive styling guidance, and Eden clients are always welcome to reach out for wardrobe recommendations.

Completely normal. Nearly every newborn experiences some combination of baby acne, flaky skin, scratches, redness, or other temporary newborn features. These little details are part of this season, and I do not expect your baby to arrive looking "perfect." Minor temporary skin concerns may be softened at my discretion while maintaining a natural appearance.

Can I bring sentimental items to my newborn session?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Heirloom blankets, handmade items, military keepsakes, wedding veils, special stuffed animals, family heirlooms, and meaningful gifts are always welcome. If there is something special you would like incorporated into your session, please let me know beforehand so I can plan accordingly.

Can twins be accommodated in a newborn session?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Twins are welcome in both Earthside and Eden Sessions. Because every baby is different, twins may require additional flexibility, and I encourage you to reach out before booking so we can discuss the best option for your family.

My baby is older than 21 days. Can I still book an Earthside Session?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Due dates, NICU stays, recoveries, illnesses, and scheduling needs do not always follow a perfect timeline, and many beautiful newborn galleries have been created beyond the traditional 21-day window.
However, if your baby is older than 4 weeks at the time of the session, clients should expect a more lifestyle-focused experience. As babies become more alert and active, traditional posed newborn images become less predictable. While I will always do my best, solo posed newborn portraits cannot be guaranteed, and baby may need to be held for a larger portion of the session.
My priority is preserving this season of your family's story, not chasing a specific number on the calendar.

Can I request specific colors or styling for my newborn session?

Generally, no.
When you book a Rye & Meadow newborn session, you are booking my artistic vision, styling, and approach. Every session is carefully designed around the warm, earthy, timeless aesthetic that defines my work, and all wardrobe, props, colors, and styling choices are selected to complement that style.
If you are looking for a specific color palette, theme, prop collection, or artistic style that differs significantly from what you see throughout my portfolio, I encourage you to find a photographer whose work naturally aligns with that vision. I believe every artist's style deserves to be respected, including my own.
The galleries you see in my portfolio are the experience you can expect to receive.

What if my baby is awake the entire session?

Accepted Answer

That is perfectly okay. While sleepy babies often allow for additional posing opportunities, awake babies can create beautiful images as well. Wide eyes, curious expressions, stretches, yawns, and quiet moments of connection are all part of your baby's story. My goal is not to force a particular outcome but to create meaningful images regardless of what your baby decides to do that day.

Can I have an outdoor newborn session?

Sometimes. Outdoor newborn sessions are considered on a case-by-case basis and are designed as lifestyle sessions rather than traditional posed newborn sessions.
Because newborns cannot support their heads independently, outdoor sessions do not include extensive posing, props, or guaranteed solo newborn portraits. Parents cannot safely position a baby outdoors the same way a photographer can in a controlled studio environment.
These sessions focus primarily on connection, family interactions, and storytelling. Clients should still book either an Earthside or Eden Session depending on the experience they prefer.
